A Corner Of My World

My husband has outdone himself! For the past year he's been building me a new studio, and guess what?......

It's done!!

I especially love the roof, made from reclaimed Cornish Slate tiles. There was lots of discussion about how the roof should be but I just love the outcome!

It's situated under the Lilac and I can't wait for the Spring when it's in bloom.

Come on in, let me show you around.

Here, under this chandelier, is my silversmithing area, where most of my work will be done. The window opens from the middle, so that in the summer I can work away with an unbroken view up the garden, watching the birds flitting around in the Lilac.

My favourite tools are all close at hand.

I like to reuse tins and bottles wherever possible, so I've been squirreling away some of my favourites ready to be used as receptacles for the ones I use often.

The aim was to create an inspiring space and even when it was empty it fulfilled the brief, but I've filled it with some of my favourite things. Old china, vintage floral prints, old books and just some of my many kinck-knacks.

There are lots of little ledges to place things.

Space for some nature inspiration on the white washed wooden walls.

Finally somewhere to put the beautiful Goldfinch nest that our neighbour gave to me.

Space for some random pieces that fill me with joy but are otherwise useless.

All my books are to hand. Pre She-Shed they were hidden away in random spots around the house.

I'm looking forward to foraging trips with socks and looking up our finds in my beautiful vintage nature books.

A thing of beauty is a joy forever, and a source of inspiration.

For my birthday, my mother gave me this lovely radio, which looks like a vintage one, but is actually digital.

And I hope to always keep a vase of flowers in there.

I've put a blackboard into a frame that I restored, so I can make a list of materials that I need to stock up on.

There's a screen to hide the ugly bits....every working space has them. Things like photographic lamps, trestles, mops and brooms.

And above the sink I have my favourite brushes, ready and waiting for when aritistic inspiration hits.

I feel like the luckiest girl in the world. Lucky to have this wonderful space and even luckier to have the amazing man that made it for me.

Now, I don't want to seem inhospitable, but I've got work to do! My creative juices are overflowing right now.

I hope you've enjoyed the little tour. I'll see you again soon.
