This picture popped up on my facebook timeline today. It was taken a year ago on Holy Island.
It's a small island, situated off the Western shore of Lough Derg in southern Ireland. Tumble down lichen covered walls, lush green grass, rambling roses and ancient carved stones all surrounded by the clear waters of the lough. There's a special kind of magic there which permeates every atom and seeps into your soul.
It's one of my favourite places in the world and the inspiration for the Holy Island Collection.
I wanted to create a set of jewellery that captured the essence of the island. It needed to have an ancient, magical, Celtic feel without being overtly so. I didn't want to make a Celtic cross, just something that hinted at it.
I also wanted to reflect the colours of the island. The stones represent the water, the sky, the wonderful yellow lichen, the wild flowers, rambling roses and the lush Irish grass.
I hope I've managed to catch the essence of the place and at the same time make some very wearable and special pieces of jewellery.
The collection has been on the website for a while, but I've just added this ring to it. I have plans to make another smaller pendant too.
So, should you find yourself in the area, get yourself a boat and go and have a look. It's best enjoyed with a good picnic and family. It's a brilliant place for a game of hide and seek.
I promise you won't be disappointed.
